Why BESS, why now

The numbers on diesel stopped working three years ago. You just hadn't run them.

Diesel backup made sense when the maths was: ₹20/kWh of generated power, twice-a-week 30-minute outages, a genset that lived 8 years before overhaul. None of that holds in 2026.

Diesel landed cost is ₹22–28/kWh including service. Off-peak grid is ₹3–6/kWh in most discom territories. The arbitrage isn't a few percent — it's 80–90%. The same site running diesel for backup is overpaying for energy at every outage.

How safe is LiFePO4 vs NMC battery chemistry?

LiFePO4 (lithium iron phosphate) is the safer end of lithium chemistry — thermally stable to ~270 °C and resistant to thermal runaway. It's why grid-scale storage standardises on LiFePO4. Energy density is lower than NMC, but for stationary edge storage that's the right trade-off.

What's the real warranty period?

10 years on cells, 5 years on BMS and inverters, with cycle-life rating to 6,000 cycles at 80% retained capacity. At one cycle per day that's roughly 16.4 years of service. We extend warranty with SIMS-managed cycling data.

Can it replace my existing diesel genset entirely?

In most cases yes — for outage hours less than ~6 hours per event. For longer outages, we recommend a hybrid configuration: BESS handles the first 4–6 hours (covers 95% of real-world outages), with a small diesel reserve for tail events. Or pair with solar for true off-grid.

How does peak-shaving actually work?

SIMS monitors your tariff window. During expensive demand windows (typically 9–11 AM and 7–10 PM), BESS discharges to reduce drawn load — capping the peak that gets billed to the maximum demand charge. Off-peak windows, it recharges from cheaper grid. Net savings on demand charges alone often hit ₹2–4 lakh / month at mid-sized sites.

Where does it sit physically?

Modular cabinets, ~80×80×180 cm each at standard 50 kWh sizing. Indoor or IP54-rated outdoor variants. Fire suppression and SOC sensors integrated. SIMS manages over IP or 4G.

DISCOM compliance — anything to worry about?

BESS without grid export is unregulated in most states. Grid-tied (export-capable) installs need a basic interconnection sign-off per state regulations. We handle the paperwork as part of the install package.
